Matt and I share holidays. Since our families live in different time zones we spend almost every holiday in Iowa but come December we trek through the snow to New England and celebrate Christmas and bring in the New Year with my family
Because aren’t around for the Pott’s family winter festivities we decided to celebrate early by having a dinner with the family prior to leaving for Massachusetts. After some careful consideration and review of the sale catalogues (we were discussing the choices over Thanksgiving dinner) we settled on Share, an Iowa City wine lounge and small plate bistro.
With gorgeous décor,
And a fantastic wine list and beer selection.
After studying the menu Matt and I decided to forgo entrees and indulge in the many tapas the restaurant had to offer. The plan was to start with some small plates and finishing with a lavish dessert.
A delicious tomato and mozzarella bruschetta on a bed of greens.
A basket of fried calamari and rock shrimp with a lemon aioli with a perfect crunch.
A showcase of local cheeses with fruit and bread featuring some of the best varieties I’ve ever tasted.
Saffron scallops that tasted a little under seasoned, but presented beautifully nonetheless.
Followed by two lackluster dishes: strawberry pulled pork sliders and chorizo and sage flatbread.
And finally a rich crème brulee with berries which absolutely made up for the lack of flavor in the warm dishes.
All in all in was a fantastic evening filled with great company, flowing drinks, and fun flavors. Sounds like a tradition in the making.
