Got Milk?

Breakfast

I started off my Marathon Monday by enjoying a bowl of goop! Last night I mixed a few random ingredients to create this mornings breakfast of protein yogurt. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen a few variations of such a breakfast wonder a while back before my blogging days, but I kept it simple with

  • 1/2 c Yogurt
  • 1 Scoop Chocolate Protein Powder
  • Frozen Strawberries

One positive to an otherwise boring breakfast? It looked like melted ice cream!

Breakfast #2

When I got back from work I partook in a snack or what I referred to as Breakfast #2. A serving of Annie’s Cocoa & Vanilla Bunnies with some milk.

Milk

I don’t always mention the kind of milk I use and drink but you can generally assume it is soy. We used to solely drink soy milk out of habit more than anything when I was a vegetarian (and when Matt ate less meat). When I became a meat eater again we switched to organic cow’s milk partially because I felt comfortable drinking it as long as I knew it was from a reputable company and partially due to me wanting to cut out some soy products from our life. We had lived on faux meat products and soy milk for so many years when I was a vegetarian and I was really ready for more whole foods. But overall the cost of organic cow’s milk far exceeds organic soy milk, so we switched back to save money.

What kind of milk do you drink?

Lunch

Yesterdays sandwich complete with Mango Melon cheese, red peppers, and mixed greens on homemade bread was so amazing that I had a repeat for lunch today. I added some crunch and Oasis hummus to round out the plate.

Can you guess what I made for dinner?

Avocado Soup

  • 2 Ripe Avocadoes
  • 1 c Plain Yogurt of Choice [Regular or Greek would work here]
  • 3 c Broth of Choice [I used 1 tbsp of Chicken Base & added water]
  • How to: Remove avocadoes from their skin and add to a blender with yogurt. Pulse the avocado and yogurt until smooth. Add mixture to pot and combine with broth. Heat until you wish to serve it and top with toppings of your choosing! I topped mine with some blue corn chips and a hefty serving of Newman’s Own Pineapple Salsa.

I loved this soup! I’ve stayed away from using avocados in other recipes that call for blending because I was nervous about it – but it was so easy. As soon as I realized the consistency I had once I pulsed the avocado I got excited to try something that involved chocolate + avocados!

This yogurt also really added something to the soup. When I first opened the yogurt I thought it had gone bad because it had a thick layer of cream on top! After reading the container I realized that that was Cultural Revolution’s unique trademark! Anyways, I was pumped that the yogurt was so awesome because its literally made 15 miles from where I live.

Yoga

After dinner/work I headed to yoga and got in a super sweat session. We spent a ton of time flowing through vinyasas and my muscles were loving it!

I was hungry for a snack when I got home so I nuked an apple and topped it with some cinnamon. I also had an unpictured mini Reese’s cup at work – yum!

Love Your Body

Write down a goal that has to do with your body – it could be anything from eating the recommended amount of daily fruits and veggies to going for a 30 minute walk every day. Put the goal on a post-it as a reminder and make a commitment to accomplish it this week.

The two goals I want to focus on this week are:

  1. Drinking more water
  2. Fitting in an hour of movement a day

Anyone have any mini goals they want to share? Or tips on how to follow through with goals of any size?

  1. Now that the marathon is over, I want to start doing a lot more yoga, both to give my running body a rest but also to develop more strength and focus. That soup looks yummy! We don’t have much food, and I am too sore to go shopping so reading food blogs probably isn’t the best idea 🙂

  2. Aside from questionable health issues and the fact that most soy is GMO, I also avoid soy because it’s partially responsible for deforestation.
    I *love* hemp milk!

  3. My mini goals for the week are also to drink more water and get at least 10,000 steps a day in. But that was because I thought I was going on vacation until I realized that I’m not.

The avocado soup looks yummy! I love avocados.

And as for milk, I drink non-fat milk, whatever is the cheapest. My parents are huge soy milk drinkers and we have a soy milk machine in my house (they just buy the beans, soak, and press it) and it’s really good. I just don’t drink it that much myself.

  4. Keith and I drink almond milk and hazelnut milk!! SO GOOD!!

  5. That soup looks incredible! I have been looking for a quick easy recipe to incorporate some avocados into my life and it looks like I just found it.

As for milk I have been on an Almond Milk kick lately, but when I’m at home I stick to skim because that’s what my mama buys.

  6. That avocado soup looks awesome, it looks so satiating!! Gotta love the green stuff 🙂 I used to drink soy milk but have switched over to almond, in an effort to lower my soy consumption as well!

  7. I want to swim 200 laps… I go slow, but for me it’s the distance that matters!

P.S.— I love that orange plate with the swirlies on it. Where did you get it?

  8. Your soup sounds great!!! I also need to focus on drinking water and just being NICE to my body in terms of how I view it.

  9. I never thought of avocado soup! Sounds great! I drink 1% cow’s milk or plain soy. I just tried almond milk and liked that too. But now that grad school is coming up, I have to go with plain old cow’s, whatever’s cheapest (so unfortunately not organic). Once I have a job I will probably go for a mix of organic cow’s and soy.

I’ve been focusing on thinking less about calories and more on intuitive eating and getting in more movement that isn’t structured exericse – things like cleaning, walking the dog, etc.

  10. Avocado soup? I am slightly obsessed with avocado’s, so I may need to try this gem!

I haven’t really set a true goal or started working towards it, but I would love to find alternate exercises other than running and the elliptical.

  11. I drink nonfat milk. I am a milk addict, so those calories really add up fast….

My upcoming bike ride is May 15th. I’m training for that. It’s 55 miles!

  12. you are incredibly gorgeous! just found ur blog and im loving all ur posts! i’ll be back xo

  13. I use skim milk in coffee, and almond milk in everything else.

  14. I drink soy, almond or hemp milk. I just don’t like the taste of cow’s milk. Even as a child, I couldn’t stand it.
