I made my first bowl of oats today in a while. I ate oatmeal multiple times on the cruise, and for some reason compared to my own it tasted so much better! It may have been the peanut butter that I topped each bowl with, it was so salty and creamy and definitely a different taste than the usual almond butter I use at home.
Note to self: Buy some traditional PB for oatmeal!
- 1/2 c oats
- 1 c water
- 1 granny smith apple
- golden raisins
- brown sugar
- TJs almond butter
Lunch Part 1 & 2
I had a quick ½ lunch on my way to class – a Pure Bar. I bet this baby would taste really good warmed up!
This is my fave raw fruit & nut bar (sorry Lara!) and I find it either a. really hard to find them around Iowa City or b. really expensive. So, like any reasonable foodie would do I asked my boyfriend to divert our roadtrip through Atlanta, GA (during rush hour) so that I can stop at Trader Joes and stock up.
Usually 1/2 of my TJs loot is what I call ‘healthy junkfood’ aka chocolate covered this or peanut butter filled that – but I resisted this time. Mostly because Im trying to cut out some of the mentioned healthy junkfood and also because my Mom sent me a TJs care package this week that I know will be packed with naughty goodies!
To other Trader Joes loers out there: Have you seen Black Beluga Lentils in your store?! I couldnt find them & I even asked and they said they didnt know!
I had the other ½ of my lunch when I returned home from spending a ridiculous amount of money at the grocery store. I had a tasting plate consisting of: Monterrey Jack cheese, Triscuits, & 2 guavas.
I was feeling adventurous at the grocery store so I picked up a few of these little guys. A little sign told me to pick ones that felt soft to the touch and I could eat the little fruit whole, even though the skin can sometimes we bitter.
The verdict? Guavas smell better than they taste! There are little tiny seeds inside that are hard as rocks – literally – so be careful when you chomp down! I cut off the ends but otherwise ate the whole fruit and I liked it. Overall, I’d give them a B and thats because of the seeds mostly.
After my guava tasting I did this weeks free class from Yoga Today & relaxed with the dogs.
We had an early dinner since I had to work consisting of some of our favorite ingredients.
And onions & peppers.

When I got home from work I was feeling snacky so I had a peach with some AB.
I squealed when I saw these at the grocery store yesterday. I love peaches. Although the peaches I bought are not in season, from the USA, or organic – they are good!
I also squealed when I saw Coconut Oil on sale! Ive been waiting forever to buy two things: Coconut Oil & Chia Seeds but I reasoned that I was going on vacation soon and the money could be better spent. Somehow I thought it made more sense to buy them after I spent all my money than before when I had a lot of money?
All it takes are these 3 ingredients & a dirty food scale (which isnt even mandatory) and you are on your way to chocolate perfection.
Matt & I ate the whole bar too soon to photograph it in all its glory. But on the plus side, there will be more made in the near future so I can redeem myself!
